His ancestors arrived on the Buffalo, 1836 and the Diadem, 1841 and  were closely connected with the history and development of South Australia. A tent shop on Buffalo Row, the Black Bull Tavern in Adelaide and a farm on Section 500 in Reynella.  His  great grandparents  were the first couple to celebrate their marriage in the  Morphett Vale Baptist Church around  1868 and later managed the local post office.

John retired from full time work in 2005 and became a child advocate for the next  18 years. His long career  has been in  Social work, Pastoral  care, lecturing  and counselling. He  considers himself not retired, but "reassigned"!

He learned the violin , played in the Conservatorium  orchestra and assisted in the musical life of numerous  churches  around Adelaide.

He  commenced painting after retiring,  with no formal tuition,  capturing the essence of the  south coast, the Coorong, and Pt. Noarlunga all  of which he has loved since a boy  and where he has been active in many capacities.

Many of his paintings express the joy and have been influenced by  the fulfilling life he shared with his beloved wife Annette for over 58 years and who passed away in 2019 from cancer. They spent much time encouraging and teaching the principles of cherishing relationships and conducting marriage seminars in several states of our land. He has been awarded several merit awards and a viewers prize in 2021.

He hopes to continue  expressing  his affection for  “ The Peninsula “ painting together with his daughter in law Elizabeth and his son Geoffrey, who assists him with framing and presentation.    However, his life with Annette has been his prime motivation to create. Thank you.

John hopes you enjoy his efforts and this website.

Thank you.
